Once the Branch Diving Officer or qualified BSAC Instructor responsible for training the student is satisfied that they have completed all training and assessments to a satisfactory standard, the BSAC Club Diver / Sports Diver qualification should be awarded by the Branch concerned. The instructor responsible for training should also complete the relevant sections of the student's Qualification Record Book.

BSAC Recognised Schools and their Special Branches are authorised to conduct referrals for practical and theoretical elements of Club Diver but they are not permitted to issue the final certification for this qualification. Schools may issue "Experience Scuba" and "Ocean Diver" to non-members, and the "Entry Level Module" and "Sports Diver" qualification to members of its BSAC Special Branch.

Training requirements
Students under training for BSAC Club Diver / Sports Diver must be supervised by a minimum of Club Instructor or above and carried out by a minimum of Assistant Club instructor or above. Branches are expected to issue each new member with a copy of the "Student's Study Book" before commencement of the course. This will ensure students understand the "Achievement Targets" and lesson contents both before and during the course. Times quoted are those spent on theory and practical instruction, and include on site practical activities directly relating to the practical lesson, such as kitting up, briefings and de-briefings. They do not include time for movement between sites and facilities, meal breaks and above all, student study time, which will add to the total duration of the course. Actual in-water time for each practical lesson should be not less than half of the time quoted. All times for theory lessons are approximate and allow the instructor some latitude in terms of the total time spent on each subject.
